Welcome to Earth Tones Images!

Autumn has come and gone here in Colorado and it was the most disappointing one I can remember. Many of the trees never turned. They went to a faded green/gray and just dropped. I'm hoping for good opportunities in the winter though! I'm also happy to announce that you can now get prints on silver halide paper! Silver paper has long been used for the very best in black and white prints and now you can get it here too. Check out the shopping cart to see the new paper.

Earth Tones Images is Colorado-based photographer John Dwyer. I have been a professional historian spending a great deal of time researching in interesting places, always with my camera in tow. I still travel, although not as frequently in my current career. Living in Colorado provides ample opportunity for beautiful images and I look forward to the chances I get.

I especially enjoy photographing landscapes and wildlife. I'm also interested in photographing historical subjects and meteorological phenomena. As a photographer, I love being out in nature, and then finding ways of communicating the scene through the camera. As a viewer of my images, I hope the images can give you the sense of being there.

The photos have been captured from many places in the U.S., Canada, the British Isles and New Zealand. There are so many very fine photographers with stunning web sites so thank you for taking time to view this one.

This site is organized in galleries by subject. Click on one of the galleries below to see images. I suggest not viewing the images in their highest quality because the file sizes are very large and take quite some time to load. You may now purchase my images online! Add the images to the shopping cart to see prices and sizes.

Check back to see more galleries and enjoy your look around. Email Me and let me know what you think.

Also, I'm pleased to include a link to the site of a very fine photographer and friend, Paul Ziemba. Check out Paul's images at: http://www.ziembaimages.com

Sunrise/Sunset : That special light near the beginning and the end of the day makes for some very special images. Even though many of these images required awakening very early and trekking around in the cold, wind, and dark, I have cherished the days that produced each of these photographs. I hope you enjoy them.

Buildings : The images in this gallery all have buildings as their primary focal point. Most include interesting landscapes too. The types of buildings vary from medieval castles and cathedrals to modern skylines. You may notice that I am fond of barns... if you know of any picturesque barns, please let me know. I'm always on the lookout!

Our Buddy Mack : This gallery is a tribute to our buddy, Mack. The images here were originally in a slide show set to James Taylor's song, "You've got a friend."

He was the sweetest dog I could imagine. It was like he came along at just the right time for the right situation. He played hard and loved to please his people. I told him to protect my wife the first day he was there and he took his job very seriously. No men could enter the house or get near her without her giving him the ok first. He was around while I was researching and writing my PhD dissertation, which was a very frustrating process. Every time I got down, he knew it. He'd come in, put his head between my legs (his way of hugging), and offer me a toy to go play with. We'd play for an hour or so and then everything was fine again.

He passed away on June 8, 2003 from cancer. We miss him very much.
